Hershey Bears Drop Third Straight, 3-1

It’s probably best not to draw any conclusions about the Hershey Bears after first five games. The Bears have only earned 3 of a potential 10 points in the opening two weeks of the season.
Friday night they lost again on the road, 3-1 to the Connecticut Whale.

The Whale jumped out to a 2-0 lead on two goals, two minutes apart. Both times the Whale found passing lanes to the side of the Bears net. Brandon Segal scored less than four and a half minutes into the first period. Tommy Grant charged the net two minutes later to give the Whale a 2-0 advantage.

The Bears finally scored with under seven minutes left when Dmitry Orlov drove home a slapshot. But the Whale tallied an empty net goal from the brother of former Bears star Chris Bourque. Ryan Bourque put the game away giving the Whale a 3-1 victory.

Bears goalie Dany Sabourin made 26 saves and the Bears were perfect on the penalty kill (3 for 3.)

The Bears will try and rebound with back to back home games at Giant Center this weekend. They will host Albany on Saturday (7pm) and Wilkes-Barre (5pm) Sunday
