Comeback Falls Short, Bears Lose 6-5 (SO)

After a rough night against St. John’s the night before, the Bears looked to bounce back and show they were just playing an April Fools joke a day early. That didn’t seem like the case at the start of the game. With Binghamton scoring within the first minute of each period, the Bears would be down three goals at some points. It sure looked like a loss, but Hershey being Hershey they scored three goals in the third period to get the one point. That would be the only point they would get as Bingo grabbed the other point as they beat Hershey in a shootout, 6-5.

There was a lot in this game so let’s get to it:

• Tonight’s game started off with two penalties only two seconds into the game. Some people though this wasn’t a surprise as the referees for tonight’s game are not particularly liked around Hershey. Those referees being Jamie and Terry Koharski.
• 49 seconds after those penalties Binghamton got on the board first with a goal from Wacey Hamilton.
• Jack Downing would give the B-Sens a 2-0 lead with his goal 8:05 into the first.
• Ryan Potulny extended his goal streak to six straight games with his goal just over halfway into the game
• Defenseman Julien Brouillette would take a tripping penalty at the end of the first, putting the Senators on the power play to start the second. They would convert that power play into a goal only :56 seconds into the period
• Bingo tacked another one on with Stephane Da Costa 13th goal of the season
• Billy Ryan would score his first as a Bear in the late part of the second period to cut Binghamton’s lead down to 4-2
• Binghamton took that three goal lead back with a goal from Pat Cannone only 18 seconds into the final period of play
• Potulny would score his 30th and 31st of the season later in the period. Boyd Kane would tack on his 19th in between Potulny’s goals
• No goals would be scored in overtime so this game went to a shootout. Da Costa and Kane would trade goals in the fourth round of the shootout, but the Senators would get the last laugh with Eric Gryba getting one past Dany Sabourin and having their goalie Robin Lehner stop Cameron Schilling, giving them the extra point

The Bears play their final regular season game against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday before coming back home to finish out the year against the Crunch and Whale.
