Bears Drop Second Game of Playoffs, 7-2

Down one game, the Bears had a chance to tie up the series before returning home.
…unfortunately it didn’t go quite as planned. I won’t upset you with the details, but the Bears left the first period down four goals. Between deflections, rebounds, and just plain getting out-worked, the Penguins owned Dany Sabourin and the first period and set the tone for the rest of the game.
The Bears scored twice in the second period to make sure the game didn’t get too painful. First Patrick McNeill scored unassisted. Garrett Mitchell also found the back of the net after deflecting a Julien Brouillette shot. Unfortunately, those goals sandwiched another Penguins goal that made it 5-2 after two periods.
Things went from bad to worse when Brian Street was hooked on a shorthanded breakaway. He was awarded a penalty shot and scored to make it a 4-goal lead once again. This was followed by a power play goal from Colin McDonald. Bears lose, 7-2.
It’s looking bleak, but don’t give up. The series comes to Hershey next.
Tonight’s Notes:
- A few line-up changes resulted in Barry Almeida getting a spot in his first professional playoff game.
- During the third period, Garrett Mitchell was boarded by Alex Grant. He was shaken up and Beaker had to come out and tend him to him. Thankfully, Mitchell returned a few minutes later.
- Something to keep an eye on: Patrick Wellar took out his frustration on a Penguin late in the game. He received five for fighting, two for roughing, and a game misconduct. The league might be looking into this one.
- The special teams were a bit of a bummer again tonight: Bears were 0-for-4 on the power play. Penguins were 2-for-6.
