2014 Hershey Bears Awards: The Photos
HERSHEY, PA – Dane Byers waves to the crowd after accepting his award as Hershey Bears team MVP (Kyle Mace / Sweetest Hockey on Earth)
The award ceremony at the end of each regular season is normally a kick off to the playoffs for the Hershey Bears, but this season it’s a bit different. This year the Bears are out of the 2014 playoff race for time in eight seasons. Despite the disappointing end to the season, the Chocolate and White thanked the Giant Center crowd with a win Saturday night.
Before all of that went down, the annual awards ceremony was held in front of the sold out crowd at Giant Center. Eight awards were handed out to players.
Cameron Schilling was named Bears’ Man of the Year Award. Michael Latta shared the John Travers and Steve Summers Memorial award for highest plus/minus with Schilling. The Kenny Smith Memorial for the radio player of the game Award went to Jeff Taffe. The Arlene Tighe Award for Unsung Hero is was awarded to Matt Watkins. Ryan Stoa received the Dan Sernoffsky Memorial Award for Most Improved Player Award. The Milton Garland Memorial Award for Best Defenseman is now to Tyson Strachan’s. Rookie of the Year is Philipp Grubauer, who received the The Jack Gingrich Award. And finally, Dane Byers was named team MVP.
