Jonas Siegenthaler Scores First AHL Point in First Game with Hershey

In Hershey’s historic 8-0 win last night over Lehigh Valley, the newest Hershey Bear Jonas Siegenthaler scored his first AHL point with an assist on Erik Burgdoerfer‘s second period goal.

“It was a good, high paced game,” the 18-year-old said after the win. “I really enjoyed to play with the Bears. It was a lot of fun.

“They’re great guys; they’re helping you all the time. I would not say [tonight] was easy, but since the team helps you a lot, it made [my first game] easier.”

The 6-foot 3-inch defenseman was paired with Burgdoerfer in his first appearance with the Chocolate and White after arriving to Chocolate Town the week before.

Last week at the Swiss defenseman’s second practice, Troy Mann spoke highly of the Washington prospect. “He’s coming in pretty high profile. The Caps moved up in the second round last June to get him. The good thing about him is he’s coming from a really good league. The Swiss A League is the best you can get overseas.”

For Bears assistant coach Bryan Helmer, who works with Hershey’s defensemen, the four rookie defensemen on Hershey’s blueline has been a treat to work with. “The good thing is they’re taking everything in. They want to learn. I think all four of them have high-end skill. They’ve got some bad habits coming out of juniors and Europe, but I stay on top of it. If I see anything in practice, I tell them. They usually pick it up pretty quick.”
