Last Saturday the Giant Center hosted the PIAA State Wrestling Championships. There was precious little time to transform the GC back to a hockey rink. Brad Wilson of The Express-Times gives his take on it describing how poorly it was handled by GC staff. In his article he states “It was a bit rich of the meet announcer, though, to ask fans to beat it because of an ‘important’ Hershey Bears game coming up. There has never been an ‘important’ minor-league hockey game.” I beg to differ. [LehighValleyLive]
Michael Sedor of the Patriot News is also covering the change from wrestling to hockey. [PennLive]

Well, it’s actually called a wrestling match or duel meet. But I do agree, there is something called timemanagement. They needed to move on to the next event. The event staff really didn’t have 4 hours to turn the rink over. After clearing the mat and chairs, they would remove all the floor boards and place the glass back up. We all know just one piece of glass can be a pain. Also the netting around the ends has to go back up, not to mention the clean up of the isles and chairs. The players go on the ice 35 minutes prior to puck drop for warm-ups. I saw someone say the event was over at 3:30. So from 3:30 to 6:25 looks like a little under 2 hours to me.
I feel for the kids, but maybe the PIAA should have started sooner knowing a game at 7 was to take place. Live and learn.
Oooops… that’s 3 hours not 2
There’s never been an ‘important’ ringworm infection.
Never an important minor league game? Really? How about this, Mr. Brad Wilson: Does your wrestling league have an area to hold any games in? Who had to rent out the Giant Center to have their championship game at? And you’re mad that the OWNERS are kicking you out because PAYING PEOPLE want to see a hockey game? Go celebrate with your team at a Chuck E Chesse, you jackass.
