Hershey Rebounds with 3-0 Shutout against Bingo

In a rare midweek game, the Hershey Bears took to the ice to battle the Binghamton Senators and hopefully make up for being shut out last Friday. It also marked D.J. King‘s first game as a Hershey Bear.

The Bears scored ten seconds into their first power play of night. Keith Aucoin dished to Graham Mink who scored from his office in front of the net. Later, Mattias Sjogren would show off his ability to pressure opponents into turnovers. His shot then hit the skate of a Senator and Garrett Mitchell scored on the rebound. All in all, the first period brought a well-rounded effort from the Bears.

The second period saw the next fight in the battle of Francis Lessard and Joel Rechlicz. Don’t worry, this time Lessard remembered to take his visor off. Lessard was able to pull Rechlicz’s jersey over his head but good ol’ Recker still landed some huge punches. The fight was their second of this season.

Boyd Kane made it a 3-0 game late in the second. He backhanded a loose puck past Robin Lehner to deflate some of the momentum that Bingo had been gaining. For Robin Lehner, the night was over after two periods. Mike McKenna took over the goaltending duties for the third stanza.

There were no more goals in the final period which means that Braden Holtby earned his first shutout of the season. His teammates played good defense and he was only called on to make 15 saves. Bears win, 3-0!

Tonight’s Notes:

  • Matt Ford was scratched tonight due to an upper body injury he obtained during last Friday’s game against the WBS Penguins. He appears to be day-to-day with the injury.
  • D.J. King wore #15 for the Bears. His line was probably the best of the night. He finished the night with no shots and +1 rating.
  • Another nice special teams night: The power play was 1-for-1 and the the penalty kill successfully stopped both of Binghamton’s power plays.

Lines and Pairings:

Bourque – Aucoin – Mink
Kane – Hanson – Micflikier
King – Sjogren – Mitchell
Carroll – Lacroix – Rechlicz

McNeill – Collins
Wellar – Brouillette
Orlov – Flemming

Three stars of the game:

2. Braden Holtby (HER)
3. Jacob Micflikier (HER)

Hersheypark Pass Night is my favorite promotional night if only for the ceremonial face-off.

I’m not sure who is more starstruck, Mark Parrish or the Hershey Bar.

Graham Mink doesn’t pass up a nice scoring opportunity.

Mink’s goal is more proof of Hershey’s power play success.

Garrett Mitchell celebrates the goal he scored while falling.

Rechlicz doesn’t need to be able to see in order to punch someone in the face.

Boyd Kane earns his fourth goal of the season.

Christian Hanson doesn’t seem to want Patrick McNeill be part of the goal hug.
