Bears Continue to Struggle, Lose to Whale 1-0

The outcome of Mark French’s frustration (All photos by Kyle Mace)

Dany Sabourin has been living by the motto “No Rest” these past couple of weeks. Out of the last 13 Bears game Sabourin has started 12 of them. The one he didn’t start, he was backing up Braden Holtby in Washington. After all of the games and travel for Mr. Sabourin, he might need some rest after tonight’s game. It wasn’t a busy game, but one that felt like it was going to go on forever. Connecticut only had 26 shots on the night, but one got through. The one that got through would be the only puck that saw the back of the net as Hershey would lose, 1-0.

Not much would happen in the first period. Only three penalties the whole period. Pavel Valentenko would score the only goal of the game in the second period right off the faceoff.

That would not be the climax of the game though. A small scrum in front of the net where Whale goalie Cameron Talbot would hit Tomas Kundratek after the play. Kundratek would get two minutes for interference. Whale’s Mike Vernace would get a ten minute misconduct along with Joel Rechlicz and Garrett Mitchell.

Later in the period Mike Carman would get called for spearing. Carman would be ejected and given a five minute penalty for spearing. A player was not put in the box to serve Carman’s penalty. The five minute penalty would expire and play would continue. The Bears would play down a man for an extra few seconds before the play was whistled dead.

Mark French was irate after the play and would launch a water cooler on the ice and throw a water bottle down the hall after the game had come to a conclusion. You rarely see French lose his cool, making very interesting event.

Hershey is on the road for three games before the Bears start their first round series.
