HERSHEY, PA – Tomas Kundratek, seen here at the end of last season, resigned for two more seasons with the Washington Capitals Tuesday (Kyle Mace – Sweetest Hockey on Earth)

In today’s morning hours, Capitals’ beat writer Katie Carrera of the Washington Post reported the Capitals tendered a qualifying offers Nicolas Deschamps, Karl Alzner, Marcus Johansson, Tomas Kundratek and Peter LeBlanc.

Before sunset on the same day, Kundratek announced his return to the organization on a two year deal. Kundratek participated in 25 games with Washington the previous season along with 49 games in Hershey. The 23 year old blue-liner will return to the Capitals organization for a third season after being traded by the New York Rangers.

According to Scott Stuccio’s “Stucc’s Glove and Blogger,” “Kundratek is now waiver-exposable and would have to clear in order to be assigned to Hershey the next time.”

Players who the Caps did tender qualifying offers to are Mattias Sjogren, Danick Paquette, and Dustin Stevenson. Sjogren has already signed overseas in Europe.

The Kundratek signing is just a small rain drop in the eventual free agent frenzy down-poor, slated to begin July 5.
