The Washington Capitals announced Friday that they have recalled Nate Schmidt from Hershey and assigned Connor Carrick and Michael Latta to Chocolate Town, USA.
Schmidt, 22, scored Hershey’s first goal of the season in the Bears home opener against Adirondack and has played in 14 games for Hershey over the last two seasons (9 regular, 5 playoffs.) Schmidt’s recall is his second to the NHL after being recalled as a black ace last season, but not playing any games.
Schmidt was recalled to the NHL after John Erskine was injured in the Caps game against Carolina. Senior Writer for washingtoncaps.com Mike Vogel reports Bears d-man “(Dmitry) Orlov has a bad case of pink-eye, so he was not an option.”
Michael Latta started the season in DC, was sent down to Hershey for their opener, recalled once again, and now is back in Hershey after playing Thursday night in Washington. Latta has played in two games for the Caps this season, playing a combined 13:09.
Connor Carrick, 19, made professional debut with Washington on October 1st and scored his first NHL goal only two days later. Despite being under the age of 20 and playing for Plymouth in juniors, Carrick is allowed to play in Hershey this season because he was not drafted in the CHL draft. The Orland Park, Illinois native played in three games this year for Washington, but did not play Thursday night against Carolina.
Hershey plays Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the WB Saturday night. Puck drop at 7pm.
