There’s no place like home for the holidays. That old song might turn into the theme over the next week for the Hershey Bears. The Bears head into this afternoon’s game against Binghamton on a solid points streak that is slowly moving them out of last place in the AHL East.

The Bears take on what were the red-hot Senators again today at Giant Center, after breaking Binghamton’s seven game winning streak with a 5-2 victory last night in Hershey. The Bears scored three goals in less than two minutes, mid-way through the first period. Goals by Casey Wellman, Dmitry Orlov, and Peter LeBlanc gave the Bears a 3-0 advantage. Binghamton would tally twice late in the second and early in the third, but goals by Brandon Segal and Julien Brouillette gave the Bears a 5-2 win.

“I thought it was the most complete game we’ve played all year,” said Bears coach Mike Haviland. “It has to be that way when you are playing one of the best teams in the conference. I really like the way we played. We had energy and emotion. We did a good job of eliminating their second chances.”

Hershey has now won three of their last four and have picked up standings points in eight of their last ten contests. The Bears face off against Binghamton today at 5pm. Then on Wednesday, Hershey plays their traditional Thanksgiving eve game taking on St John’s and former Bears star Andrew Gordon.
