Riley Gill was summoned from the Reading Royals earlier in the week, and he received the nod to start his club’s three games in three nights stretch against the Adirondack Phantoms.

In just Gill’s fourth career game at the AHL level, the 2013 Kelly Cup Champion did not disappoint. Both him and his counter-partner Cal Heeter had clean sheets after 60 minutes of regulation. Neither team had a power play chance in regulation, and the only penalties were dished out to Patrick Wellar and Derek Mathers for fighting 2:27 into the contest.

The Hershey Bears’ penalty kill was called to answer the bell only 25 seconds into the sudden death overtime period. But with the game on the line, the PK unit could not get the job done as Jason Akeson scored the lone goal to finish a 1-0 Adirondack win in overtime.

It was the Bears’ third overtime loss on the season and second to the Phantoms dating back to the home opener on October 5.
