PHOTOS: Hershey Takes Down the B-Sens with a 5-2 Win
HERSHEY, PA – Philippe Cornet celebrates his first period goal during the Bears win over Binghamton Saturday night (Kyle Mace / Chocolate Hockey)
Seven goals, six (give or take two) fights, and 114 penalty minutes. This game was the first of eight matches between the Hershey Bears and Binghamton Senators in the 2014-15 season, and boy was it a fun one. Hershey would take the two points, but not without a lot of action in the game. Chris Brown and Philippe Cornet would give Hershey an early 2-0 lead only seven minutes into the first period.
Binghamton would not respond until a power play in the second where Derek Grant would break Phoenix Copley’s shutout. But less than a minute later, arguably the hottest player in the AHL right now, Stan Galiev, would give Hershey their two goal lead right back.
Grabbing his second of three points on the night, Tim Kennedy would score his second goal of the season to give the Bears a 4-1 lead. Then the scoreboard broke but that’s a story for another time.
Grant would get his second goal of the game to cut the lead to 4-2 early in the last period of play.
Chris Conner, who was named AHL player of the week last week, would score the empty netter for his fourth point of the night, sealing the win for the Bears and putting them three points behind Wilkes-Barre heading into the rivalry match-up Sunday night.
