After a weekend stay in Hershey, goaltender Justin Peters was recalled by the Washington Capitals early Monday morning. Peters hasn’t seen any game action in over a month, since former Bear Braden Holtby has played in 23 consecutive games. The Caps decided to gave Peters a chance to get some of the rust off before returning to the NHL, where he is scheduled to start on Saturday against the Dallas Stars.

He recorded a 4-0 shutout in his former home Albany on Friday night, but gave up three goals in a 4-2 loss to Norfolk on Sunday.

“It was great to get some game action, that’s for sure,” said Peters after the game on Sunday. “On a personal note I’m thankful for the opportunity, for the guys playing hard for me this weekend.”

Returning to Albany on Friday was the first time he was back in his old home since the 2010 Calder Cup playoffs when he was with the River Rats. “The last game I actually played in that barn was against the Bears in the playoffs. It kind of came full circle. It was weird being back in that barn and also a little different putting on a Bears jersey. It was a lot of fun being part of this team.”

Below, the full post game interview with Peters from Sunday night.
