Stan Galiev Recalled by Washington Capitals
On Tuesday morning we were greeted with a news that Stan Galiev was recalled to the Washington Capitals. Galiev, who is having a career year, scoring 25 goals with 20 assists, including leading the AHL in power play goals. After grinding out the last two years spending time between the AHL and ECHL, struggling to stick in Hershey, the young star is getting his shot.
“It was a special day yesterday when I got the call,” Galiev told the media in DC after Capitals practice. “Obliviously I’m excited to play, and ready to play too.”
Bears head coach Troy Mann had all positive things to say about the 23-year-old’s promotion. “Stan deserved a call up. He’s had a great year and he’s a great kid who has battled here over the last three years and with Reading in the ECHL.
“He’s made the most of his opportunity this year. He has a tremendous work ethic. I know the organization and coaching staff is thrilled that he is getting the opportunity to play tomorrow night.”
At one point this season, Galiev had a nine game scoring streak, posting 11 points during that time and scoring Hershey’s only goals over three games.
Washington plays tomorrow against Boston, giving Galiev a chance to get his first NHL game in before the end of the Capitals regular season. Hershey prepares for a trip up to St. John’s as they look to clinch the East Division for the first time since 2010 during back to back games on Friday and Saturday.
