A playoff game usually doesn’t result in a 10 goal effort, but the Hershey Bears put together their best offensive game of the season and beat the Worcester Sharks 10-4 on Friday night to advance to the Calder Cup conference semi-finals.
There was so much that went on in this game, so here are just a few of the notes:
- Chris Brown scored the first goal just 24 seconds into the game.
- Dustin Gazley scored a short handed breakaway goal less than 4 minutes into the game to give Hershey a 2-0 lead.
- Jakub Vrana scored his first professional goal mid-way through the first period to give the Bears a 3-0 advantage.
- Casey Wellman had a hat trick capping off his three goal game with a tally early in the third.
- The Bears had 48 shots resulting in 10 goals
- Stan Galiev and Philipp Grubauer were both injured in the game. Head coach Troy Mann said both are day-to-day with upper body injuries.
- Hershey went four for nine on the power play, scoring five goals over all on the man advantage.
- This also ended the Worcester Sharks run in the AHL. The team will now be moving to San Jose in the AHL’s move west.
Hershey’s first two games of the next round of the playoffs will be Wednesday, May 6 and Friday, May 8 at Giant Center against either Hartford or Portland depending on the outcome of tonight’s Portland-Manchester game.
