It was right before the All-Star break that Riley Barber scored the first Bears hat trick in two seasons, netting three goals in a win against Syracuse. But now in back-to-back home games, the Bears have their second hat trick of the season.
Travis Boyd scored three goals for the Chocolate and White Saturday night in a 5-1 win over Lehigh Valley, including a deflection to give him his third goal. “Quite frankly I was just happy to see a few hats go on the ice,” Boyd said with a smile.
“Everybody loves scoring goals, I’m no different. You see a few hats on the ice, it’s really a special experience.”
Boyd’s first-year pro has been a special one, putting up great numbers for the Chocolate and White with 13 goals and 19 assists for 32 points. Along with Travis, eight other Bears are either in their first or second year playing professionally, helping driving this bus for the Bears. “Everyone who’s on their first couple of years [professional], we’ve been around for multiple summers when we go to Washington. We’ve got great chemestry, we’re with each other everyday, obviously starting to grow more; I think it’s really starting to show out there. Everybody can move and make plays.
“We’re taking a lot of notes day in and day out from the older guys – watching the things they do to be successful. It’s a lot of us learning from the older guys, going out there playing how we can play.”
