Friday Mailbag: Why Don’t We See Dark Helmets with the Third Jerseys?
Our Friday Mailbag is back! This week we look at who might replace Liam O’Brien in a “tough guy” role, how you can help Chocolate Hockey grow, and how come in NHL 17 the third jerseys are matched with dark helmets, but in real life they wear the white ones?
@ChocHockey with LOB called up, who so you see taking on the “tough guy” roll? Sill?
— (((Brandon Alter))) (@brandon__alter) January 7, 2017
Hershey really hasn’t had a “tough guy” role all year. That’s just not the style they play anymore. Tyler Lewington currently leads the team in fighting majors at four, but remember, once you reach 10 fights, you’re suspended a game.
@ChocHockey #CHockeyMail any update on Barber’s recovery? Should be getting closer
— Jordan Myers (@jordanmyers27) January 5, 2017
Yes, as a matter of fact, Troy Mann said on Wednesday after practice Barber and Dustin Gazley are on track for February returns. Barber was working out in the stands with strength coach Mike Wagner during practice. Those will be two key additions in the final stretch of the season.
@ChocHockey #Chockeymail Which Bears are 1st on/last off at practice?
— Rita Zarcone (@RitaZ143) January 4, 2017
I’m never there early enough to see who is first on, but I can tell you that a guy I always see on the ice after practice is Jakub Vrana. Always working on something at the end of practice.
@ChocHockey so far this season in your observations what has been working & what needs more work? #ChockeyMail
— DJ Jones (@CottonEyeJones) January 2, 2017
Honestly, I think everything is working pretty well for the team. If Hershey is going to make a cup run, they’re going to have to beat teams in their division. I’m going to guess whoever wins the Atlantic Divison Finals will probably have the best shot at making the Calder Cup Finals from the Eastern Conference, as long as the rest of the division doesn’t beat up on them on their way to the conference finals.
@ChocHockey Why don’t the Bears wear their dark helmets with the cream third jerseys? Even EA NHL17 knows it looks sick. White looks bad.
— Hershey Bears Freak (@HersheyBearsFrk) January 4, 2017
It’s just easier that way. When teams travel, they have limited amount of room to bring along their equipment. For example, if Syracuse were to come to Hershey on a Sunday after playing in Wilkes-Barre on a Saturday, they would need to bring their blue jerseys, blue helmets, and white helmets. That’s an extra 18-20 helmets you have to pack in an already cramped amount of space. It could happen if a team like Wilkes-Barre or Lehigh Valley were making a short day trip to Chocolate Town, but with the change over to dark sweaters after Christmas now, I don’t think we’ll be seeing them again anytime soon.
#CHockeyMail who are the players that are the most fun to do the behind the scenes events with?
— Adam Murray (@AMurrayState) January 4, 2017
In all honesty, every Bear I’ve interacted with in my seven seasons covering the team has been nothing but class. I enjoy doing stories with guys who are closer to my age (example: FIFA 17 with Jakub Vrana, and Vitek Vanecek was a blast) but working with players on everything from blogs to just the typical interview has been great.
Will we ever see a store just like RMNB? #CHockeyMail
— Jason (@xxJasterxx) January 4, 2017
I’m glad you asked, Jason! We just opened our new merch store today!! We’re always looking for more ideas, so please tweet me personally (@kyle_mace), or e-mail me (link to my e-mail on our about page) and let me know what you’d want to see as a shirt!
#CHockeyMail how can the public help the site grow and prosper?
— Adam Murray (@AMurrayState) January 4, 2017
One of the best ways to help grow the site is sharing stories with your friends. From a Facebook share to a Twitter retweet, to even mentioning a story to the people you sit with a game, everything helps grow the site.
The second biggest thing is being vocal about what you want to see on the site. This website is built on providing a look at the Bears you won’t find anywhere else and being a platform for you to voice your opinion. Use the comment section and be vocal about what you want to see and what you think about the team!! Would you prefer more videos, more photos, more in-depth articles? Who do you think is playing well, what do you like about a story, or share something you think people should know! Please use the comments and let us know what you want to see and what you see, and we will try our best to provide and respond to you.
