Bourque Brothers Dye Hair Blond for Playoffs

It all started with a Twitter poll. Bears captain Garrett Mitchell posted on his Twitter account a question for Bears fans: should Ryan Bourque dye his hair blond once again for the Calder Cup playoffs.

The votes were overwhelming and 83% of the 500 people who got to vote in the very short time the poll was live voted “Effin rights.”

“The other night the topic came up in a Twitter poll against my discretion,” said Ryan, “but sometimes you have to give the people what they want. The poll spoke for itself.”

The now-famous poll:

Bourque plead hard for people to vote no.

Bourque lost the fight and had to once again dye his hair blond after doing it for playoffs last season. Roommate Christian Thomas joined the younger of the two Bourque brothers at the salon but did not participate in getting his hair dyed.

“Those talks are still ongoing,” Bourque said in regards to trying to convince Thomas to join in on the trend. “Still got a few days before Saturday night. You might see some new hair colored by the end of the week.”

So does Bourque like this now familiar look? “No,” he said after a short pause. “As a child, I had blond hair. Only memories I had of it.”

Editors note: we found this photo of Ryan (second from right) and his family from 2001 when he had blond hair. Enjoy.

So far the only other player to join in on the fun is Bourque’s brother, Chris. The color change on him left head coach Troy Mann a little bit perplexed. “I figured Rick was going to get it done, but I was a little surprised with Chris for sure.

“I saw the texts last night on the team group chat where they were polling guys whether they wanted to dye some guys hair blond. But whatever works. This time of year guys are always trying funky things.”

There are a few players with a bit of color, too. Stan Galiev was sporting a few streaks in his hair. “As you can see, I put little highlights,” Galiev said grabbing a few strands of hair. So are the highlights leading to a full-blown gold look for the Russian forward? “No. No no no. Not going to go too crazy.”
