Christian Djoos re-signs two-year contract with Washington
On Thursday, the Washington Capitals announced that they have re-signed defenseman Christian Djoos to a two-year contract.
Djoos had a breakout season during the 2016-2017 campaign notching 58 points (13 Goals, 45 Assists) which ranked him first among defensemen on the Bears and third overall in the AHL.
His consistent play earned him his first NHL call up to the Washington Capitals at the end of the All-Star Break.
The 22-year-old was not done yet. In March it was announced that Djoos was named the CCM/AHL Player of the Month.
Via Mike Vogel of the Capitals, the contact will be a two-way deal worth $650,000 in 2017-18, and a one-way deal in the second season. Djoos would need waivers to return to Hershey.

The Washington Capitals have re-signed defenseman Christian Djoos to a two-year, $1.3 million contract, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today. Djoos’ contract is two-way during the 2017-18 season and one-way during the 2018-19 season.
Djoos, 22, registered 58 points (13g, 45a) in 66 games with the Hershey Bears (AHL) last season, recording career highs in points, goals, assists and games played. The 6’0”, 164-pound defenseman ranked tied for first among AHL defensemen in assists in 2016-17 and ranked third in points. In addition, Djoos ranked second among Bears skaters in assists, third in points and tied for seventh in goals last season.
Djoos was selected by the Capitals in the seventh round, 195th overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft. The 6’, 161-pound defenseman has represented Sweden at two IIHF World Junior Championships (2013, 2014) and one IIHF U18 World Championship (2012), capturing a silver medal at each tournament. Christian Djoos is the son of former NHL defenseman Pars Djoos, who played for the Detroit Red Wings and the New York Rangers.
