Domenic Monardo heading to Austrian Hockey League
Former Hershey Bears forward Domenic Monardo has signed with Hockey Club Bolzano-Bozen of the Austrian Hockey League.
Monardo, 28, joined the Bears at the end of the 2015-16 season on a PTO for the team’s Calder Cup Finals run, only skating as a black ace. He re-signed at the beginning of the 2016-17 season on an AHL contract and would spend most of the season with the South Carolina Stingrays.
The 5-foot-11 forward would see action in 11 games for the Bears in the 2016-17 campaign, scoring three assists, two coming in his first game of the season with the Chocolate and White against Utica.
The Oakville, Ontario native now moves onto the EBEL and HC Bolzano, who is the only team in the league based out of Italy. The move comes after scoring 33 points in 43 regular season games for the Stingrays, and 18 points in 22 Kelly Cup Playoff games as the Stingrays would be swept in the Finals against the Colorado Eagles.
Monardo became a fan favorite in Hershey after entertaining crowds during the Old Barn Hockey Show’s live shows at the Bears Den on a monthly basis. One event spawned one of our favorite lines: “If you wanna win, let DOMO spin.”
