Hershey Bears win the week, beat Hartford 4-3
On a night honoring Breast Cancer survivors, as well and bringing awareness to the disease, the Bears put on a show for the 10,489 in attendance at Giant Center Sunday night.
The Bears were looking to win their first week of the season, and that’s exactly what they would do. Behind three goals from Wayne Simpson, Chris Bourque, and Lucas Johansen, the Chocolate and White bagged their second win of the weekend, taking down Hartford 4-3.
The Bears came out flying, as Jeremy Langlois was inches from scoring the first goal of the night only a minute into the period. It would take only three-and-a-half minutes to get that first goal, and Travis Boyd would feed Wayne Simpson a perfect puck to beat Chris Nell.
Hartford would respond under three minutes later as Chambersburg-born Steven Fogarty would score his first of the season to make it a 1-1 game.
Chris Bourque would send home his third of the season on the power play midway through the first to give the Bears a 2-1 lead heading into the middle frame.
Rookie defenseman Lucas Johansen would score his first professional goal on the power play late in the second period to extend the Bears lead to 3-1.
Captain Garrett Mitchell would then drop the gloves with 6-foot-5 defenseman Ryan Graves. A bit of momentum on his side, Mitchell took down Graves and gave the Bears some more energy heading into the third period.
Fogarty would get another for the Wolf Pack, cutting the Hershey lead to 3-2 early in the third.
But the Bears would respond once again, as Liam O’Brien would score off of a great pass from Dustin Gazley to make it 4-2.
Hartford would score a goal with seconds remaining on the clock, but can’t come back as Hershey takes the W, 4-3.
