Former Bear Paul Carey opens scoring for New York Rangers in Winter Classic (Video)

During Monday’s NHL Winter Classic, former Hershey Bears forward Paul Carey picked up the first goal for the New York Rangers against the Buffalo Sabres.

Carey, 29, scored a goal on a feed from Jesper Fast for his fifth goal of the season with the Rangers only four minutes into the first period. Fast found Carey wide open in the slot, who would put the puck past Robin Lehner.

Last season Carey had 24 goals and 55 points for Hershey, earning an NHL contract with New York this season.

The Boston native is also using Mets legend David Wright’s locker stall in the Mets clubhouse, which has been converted to the Rangers dressing room, for Monday’s game.
