Garrett Mitchell signs PTO with Reading Royals

Former Hershey Bears captain Garrett Mitchell has signed a PTO with the Reading Royals of the ECHL, sources confirmed to Chocolate Hockey on Friday.

Mitchell, 27, is still looking for an opportunity with a team this season. The Regina, Saskatchewan native spent parts of nine seasons in Chocolate Town, playing in 400 games for Hershey, good for 25th all-time with the Bears.

Europe remains a possibility for the forward. A move overseas would follow that of former Bears teammates Zach Sill, who signed in the Czech Republic this offseason, and Dustin Gazley, who headed off to Austria to join Red Bulls Salzburg.

Reading is the former ECHL affiliate of Hershey and Washington, now the ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers. They open their training camp Saturday.
