Former Hershey captain Garrett Mitchell signs in Slovakia
Former Hershey Bears captain Garrett Mitchell has headed overseas to continue his hockey career. HKM Zvolen’s announced Sunday that Mitchell would join the team for the rest of the 2018-19 season. Mitchell served as Hershey’s captain for three of his seven full seasons with the franchise.
HKM Zvolen plays in the Slovak Extraliga, currently leading the standings with a 17-5-4-2 record and 61 points. The 56-game season is halfway over with 28 games remaining on their schedule.
According to the Zvolen website, Mitchell joined the team Sunday but did not play in their game against DVTK Jegesmedvék.
Mitchell, 27, played exactly 400 games for Hershey, scoring 110 points and reaching the playoffs five times, captaining the team to a 2016 Calder Cup Finals appearance.
