Riley Barber on Player of the Month award: “It’s a great honor”

Hershey Bears forward Riley Barber has been named AHL Player of the Month for January 2019.

“It’s a great honor,” Barber told Chocolate Hockey moments after learning of the award. “This is a really good league and a really hard league to produce in. And to be seen as Player of the Month is awesome.”

Barber scored 14 points, with seven goals and seven assists in 10 games.

In those ten games, Hershey also went on a seven-game point streak, winning six and jumping above the .500 mark.

“We’re doing the right thing in all three zones. When you do that, and you come back, and you play good defense, you play offense way more because you’re turning more pucks over.

“It’s always more fun to play more offense. When you have games where the majority of the games are in the offensive zone, and you’re making plays, and everybody is feeling good, that kind of drives you.”

This is the first time a Bears player won the award since Christian Djoos won it in March of 2017.
