Bears End Scoreless Streak
The Hershey Bears went six periods without scoring a goal. On Saturday Night’s game against the Charlotte Checkers, Liam O’Brien broke the streak.
In the second period at 14:58, O’Brien scored, giving the Bears a one-goal lead. With a pile at the goal crease, Joe Snively was sent the puck from Alex Alexeyev. Snively shot the puck to the net and with a tip-in from O’Brien, the puck passed the Charlotte goaltender Anton Forsberg, throwing Bears fans into a frenzy.
“Desperation was there for that one, it felt really good to get that one” O’Brien commented postgame.
“We need to hunt, the puck might be there, it might not be” Bears head coach Spencer Carbery said postgame. “But they just need to get in the habit of when the puck is shot [to the net], you’re going there no matter what.”
The mindset never changed for the Bears, even with the scoreless streak. “It was always the same but we just wanted to get [the puck] in”, O’Brien said. “We have been really solid in a lot of areas and we had a lot of chances, so we kinda just trusted we could get a goal”.
