Hershey Stays Hot With Sunday Win Over Lehigh Valley

Hershey stays hot with Sunday win over Lehigh Valley

The Hershey Bears continued their longest win streak of the season Sunday night as they downed their in-state rival Lehigh Valley Phantoms 3-1. As they honored the 1988 Calder Cup champion Bears squad, while extending their win streak to six in a row.

The chemistry of this team in the month of December has really started to take shape. Especially in the last two games. We started to see the not just the top line contribute to offensive success, but also the second and third lines again as well.

Great to see another successful goaltending performance from Vitek Vanecek. Who played in his second back to back in a week on Sunday night. Stopping 29 of 30 shots thrown his way. “Sometimes they just get into a rythm” said Head Coach Spencer Carbery. “He just looks like he’s rock solid back there” Carbery would go on to add.

Axel Jonsson-Fjallby got back on the score sheet for the second night in a row on Sunday. The Swedish forward would get a goal off a deflection in the late stages of the first period. To give the Bears a 1-0 lead going into first intermission.

The turning point in this contest would come in the third period, after the Chocolate and White capitalized on their only power play of the night. After Bobby Nardella sniped his first pro goal home, to put the Bears back up two in the third period.

“Since he’s come back, We’ve been scoring” Carbery said. “Call it puck luck, call it Bobby Nardella, but that’s a huge goal”.

On an emotional night here in Hershey, honoring the 2019 Hershey Bears Hall of Fame class, the current squad rose to the occasion. Delivering a sixth straight win. Moving the Bears into third place in the Atlantic division.
