Bears with a third period offensive explosion to secure a share of first place
The Bears came into play on Sunday evening just two points shy of first place in the Atlantic division. They would look to tie the Hartford Wolf Pack for first as they welcomed in the Rochester Americans to Giant Center.
Last night it didn’t take long for the Chocolate and White to get the scoring going, as the Bears scored in the first two minutes of the game. That would not be the case in Sunday night’s tilt, as the Bears would go scoreless into the first intermission.
It also took a large chunk of the second period before Hershey would finally break the deadlock. Martin Fehervary used his elusive speed to cut through the Amerks defense, and score on the backhand to give the Bears the 1-0 lead. The Bears went to the second intermission leading by one.
Heading into the final period of play, the Bears flipped the offensive switch and began to get on a roll. Brian Pinho started it off with his 12th goal of the year. Later followed Garrett Pilon, making the score 3-0. Riley Sutter made it 4-0 with his first AHL pro goal.
The backbone of this team tonight was certainly Vitek Vanecek’s play in net. He was able to stop 30 of 31 shots on the night, and only surrendering a last minute goal to Rochester’s Remi Elie. That goal would not matter as the Chocolate and White would go on to win 4-1 in second game in as many nights.
“Tonight I thought he was phenomenal,” said Head Coach Spencer Carbery postgame. “We gave them some really good looks when that game was 0-0, and he made some really key saves to keep it at that.”
The Bears next are in action Wednesday night, as
