Pair of Quick Trades Shake Hershey’s Locker Room

With three Bears defensemen currently enjoying life in the National Hockey League, Thursday the organization looked to bring in a helping hand to Chocolate Town.
Chay Genoway will report to Hershey after being acquired by the Washington Capitals from the Minnesota Wild. In exchange, the Wild will receive a seventh round draft pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft from the Caps.
Genoway has tallied 19 points in 53 games with the Houston Aeros this season. This is his second season in professional hockey, and his first American Hockey League gig away from Houston, Texas.
The 26-year-old blue liner produced staggering numbers in parts of five seasons at the University of North Dakota. In 168 career games with the WCHA Fighting Sioux, Genoway registered 127 points, including 101 assists.
Genoway joins the Hershey Bears during the absences of Tomas Kundratek, Steve Oleksy and Cameron Schilling.
In Genoway’s freshmen year of college hockey at North Dakota, he called current Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews his teammate.
The Bears return to the ice Saturday to kick off back-to-back home tilts against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and Adirondack Phantoms.
Hours later, D.C. announced yet another trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization. Kevin Marshall’s 83 game stint in Hershey has come to an end with a trade to the Toronto Maple Leafs/ Marlies. Marshall this season has only recorded five points in 52 games.
In return from Toronto, the Capitals have acquired forward Nicolas Deschamps. You have to automatically love any hockey player with the word “Champs” in his last name. Deschamps has 16 points in 50 AHL games this season for the Marlies. Deschamps was drafted 35th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Anaheim Ducks. Like Genoway, Deschamps is to report immediately to the Hershey Bears.
