Philipp Grubauer Earns First NHL Win in New York

In just his first National Hockey League start of 2013-14 and second of his career, Philipp Grubauer his first career win and near shutout against the New York Rangers. The Capitals carried a 4-0 lead into the final minutes before New York broke Grubauer’s shutout bid with 1:53 left.

“The World’s Most Famous Arena” in the city that never sleeps can now add another moment to the long list of historic events, as Grubauer beat the Rangers for the Washington Capitals’ 16th win of the campaign. Grubauer was supported by three second period strikes, one by former Bear Steve Oleksy, along with a perfect 2-for-2 penalty kill.

Grubauer’s recent call up to the NHL was brought on by a Michael Neuvirth minor injury. Neuvirth participated in the Caps’ morning skate prior to their game at Madison Square Garden, but was not activated from the injured reserve.
