After the Bears received some bad news with the report of Garrett Mitchell’s shoulder injury, which will force him out of action for four months, the Chocolate and White had to take the ice in Binghamton. Hershey had a few undisciplined penalties all throughout the game, but their

Early into the first period, Patrick Wellar would find the back of the net for the first time since the first game of the 2011-12 season, giving Hershey an quick 1-0 lead. “That was great for a guy like me to contribute,” said Wellar. “Particularly in a big game like this one.”

The scoring would not pick back up until the second period where Binghamton would score two goals, giving them a one goal advantage heading into the final period play. “We weren’t playing well and were letting them off the hook. We were playing soft. But then in the third period we crashed the net and came up with those big goals. We were really getting gritty.”

4:59 into the third, Binghamton added what seemed to be an insurance goal at the time, but Stan Galiev disagreed. Exactly one minute later, the 21-year-old Russian cut the lead to one with his second of the season.

With time winding down in the game and Hershey down by one, Casey Wellman put the biscuit in the basket for the eight time of he season.

65 minutes would not be able to decide this one, so the shootout would have to finish this game. Ryan Stoa and Galiev would find the back of the net and David Leggio pulls a Lord of the Rings and says “You Shall Not Pass” to all Senators as he goes a perfect 4 for 4 with saves in the shootout. “We really played the right way,” head coach Mike Haviland said after the game. “Leggio was outstanding. It was a great character win for us and a huge two points.

“We came back on these guys twice in this building the last two games,” Havi pointed out after the game. The Chocolate and White have won the last three out of four games against the Senators and are 3-2 against them this season.

Hershey will head back home before Friday night’s game in Wilkes-Barre Township against the Baby Penguins.
