Bears Unable to Hold off Americans, Lose 4-1

HERSHEY, PA - Jeff Taffe talks to Bears head coach Mike Haviland during a break during training camp
Jeff Taffe, seen here earlier in the year, scored Hershey’s only goal in the Bears 4-1 loss to Rochester

It wasn’t the homecoming Bears goalie David Leggio was hoping for. Playing in his first game in Rochester with Hershey, since leaving the Amerks after two solid seasons, Leggio gave up four goals in a 4-1 Rochester win over Hershey. Leggio made 29 saves, but Hershey only managed one goal and 26 shots in a losing effort.

After giving up a goal mid-way through the first to Rochester’s Luke Adam, Jeff Taffe came around the back of the Amerks net and scored a power play goal to tie the game at one. But the Amerks scored three unanswered goals to eventually win the game 4-1. Leggio looked frustrated on the first two of those goals and later gave up the final goal on a breakaway by Braden Irwin.

The loss keeps Hershey in the 9th spot in the Eastern Conference. Saturday night the Bears return home to face the Portland Pirates for the first time this season, as Hershey looks for their 10th straight home victory. The game will be televised live on abc27.2 RTV at 7pm Comcast 246, Verizon 461, Bue Ridge 152, Kuhn 67. The game will be the lone home telecast of the season, with four more road games to be televised on abc27.2 later this season
