Jonas Siegenthaler scores first North American Pro Goal

Bears rookie defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler scored his first North American pro goal Sunday night in Hershey’s 4-3 loss to Lehigh Valley.

Siegenthaler scored from the top of the slot, helping Hershey begin their comeback against the Phantoms to force the game to overtime.

After scoring the goal, Bears forward Wayne Simpson asked Siegenthaler if that was his first goal. After Jonas responded with a nod, Simpson retrieved the puck from referee Reid Anderson.

The Swiss native scores this goal two seasons after his first point, also against Lehigh Valley. “It’s nice to score a goal, but I’d rather to have a win,” said Siegenthaler. “It feels good to score once in a while.”

After parts of two seasons with Hershey, Siegenthaler joins the Bears full time in the 2017-18 campaign but already feels like he’s adjusted to the North American style of hockey. “I feel pretty comfortable right now. I mean, I had a couple games – I think 20 games right now – in the AHL. I feel good. I’ve adjusted to the smaller ice rink and everything.”
