Giant Center Time-Lapse in 30 Seconds
Over the past few weeks, Hershey’s Giant Center has been the epicenter of many PIAA (Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association) District III playoff basketball games. Saturday afternoon, the Chambersburg Trojans and the Harrisburg Cougars faced-off for the AAAA District III Championship at 1pm. That same day however, the Hershey Bears and the Binghamton Senators would compete for two points in the AHL standings.
Harrisburg was the favorite in this game after beating the number one overall seed, Central Dauphin (yes, the same Central Dauphin that has Devin Thomas, the 6’9″ Wake Forest recruit that destroyed the backboard in the Mid-Penn championship game) in the quarter finals. The Chambersburg-Harrisburg game would head into overtime that Saturday afternoon.
Once things were finally settled, Chambersburg were District III, AAAA Champions and it was 2:45pm. Yikes! At 6:24pm, the Bears and Senators had to take to the ice for pregame warm-ups for that night’s game. Not a lot of time to get that done. So the Giant Center rink crew quickly got to work.
The time lapse above begins the end of the game as well as the trophy ceremony. As people leave the court white strips of foam are being laid on the court, so when the workers are stacking the pieces of the court it does not get damaged.
The hoops and court is removed and the corner seats are added. The side boards are added in front of that and at the exact same time at the other end the rink crew is installing glass. Then it is time to reveal the ice.
The floor board are taken off as more glass is put up. The nets behind the goals are sent down to be hooked up and then sent back up to protect the fans. Finally all of the boards are off the ice and it is time for the Zamboni.
The Zamboni takes a stroll around the ice, getting it ready for the pregame warm-ups. As the Zamboni leaves the ice, we are three hours in and the fans start to arrive.
