Bryan Helmer Says Hello to Hershey Fans!

Recently, I spoke with Andrew Rodger, writer for The Voice of Sport and friend of the blog. Over the past few years, Andrew has spoken on several occasions with former Bear, Bryan Helmer. I mentioned to him that I thought Helmer was always such a good sport about taking the various ceremonial face-offs, often involving Hershey or ZooAmerica mascots. When I watched them, I couldn’t help but laugh and wonder what was going through the heads of the players taking the face-off.

Much to my surprise, Andrew asked Helmer this very question for me and the former captain was only too kind to answer:

“You can tell Kathryn that it’s pretty funny when you look up and see that the person dropping the puck is a crazy looking mascot. Then you have to control your laughter and take the picture and then the draw. It’s a lot of fun, and a fun part of being the captain. Please pass on a message to Kathryn for me, tell her I say hi and to say hello to all the fans that she knows in Hershey.”

So there you have it! An answer and a shout out to Hershey fans! Lucky for Helmer, I know plenty of Hershey fans.

If you are looking for more interviews with the beloved captain who took his team to back-to-back Calder Cup Championships, be sure to check out The Voice of Sport and follow Andrew on Twitter at @ARodgerTVOS.

  1. He really is. Since he has joined us here in OKC he has been nothing but great. One of the nicest guys off the ice, one of the guys that no matter what team he’s on you have to root for him.
