Capitals Option Grubauer to Hershey, Oleksy Waived

In the early afternoon hours of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Washington Capitals have announced two roster moves. Philipp Grubauer has been sent to the Hershey Bears after 16 games played this season in the NHL.

Steve Oleksy, a Hershey fan favorite during his time in Chocolate Town, has been placed on waivers. It is expected Oleksy will report to the Bears if he clears the waiver period. Oleksy is yet to play a game in Hershey this season after participating in 55 last season.

The Bears also made a move of their own, sending forward Josh Brittain to Reading. Brittain has four points in 19 games with Hershey this year.

At this time it is a question mark whether the transactions are due to the Capitals’ current struggles, or the on-coming Olympic break.

  1. I don’t understand what GMGM and Oates are doing with Oleksy in Hershey while Orlov is giving up scoring chances every time he’s on the ice in Washington. Would love to see them switch places again. But if SteveO doesn’t clear waivers I might go ape s***.

    1. A thousand times yes! It’s going to take a while for me to forgive the Caps if they lose Oleksy! He IS the reason I love the Caps as much as I do!
