2014 SHOEY Awards: Game of the Year

nathan walker first ahl goal-1

On the third day of voting for our first ever SHOEY Awards, we look at Game of the Year. We have three nominees for this category, two of which are rookies in some of their first games.

Game of the Year

Hershey Bears nathan walker-1Nathan Walker’s first goal and fight in the AHL
Walker’s first goal in the AHL was enough to earn him a nomination for the Goal of the Year golden puck, but his first fight in the same game puts this game up for game of the year as well. In only his seventh period in his AHL career, the forward from Australia had his first goal, fight, and was only an assist away from a Gordie Howe hat trick in his third game.

hershey bears david leggio christmas jerseys-1David Leggio’s first shutout as a Bear
Twas three night’s before Christmas and all though the rink, David Leggio was making saves left and right, it’s crazy to think. The Bears goaltender recorded his first shutout in the Chocolate and White threads (that were actually green and red for the right.) Leggio was named number one star after the 44 save performance.

Hershey Bears caleb herbert-1-2Caleb Herbert’s first professional game with one goal and one assist
In only his first professional game, on his first shot, Caleb Herbert scored his first goal in the AHL. To add on to that, Herbert also got his first assist and was named number one star of the game. Hopefully a sign of big things to come for Herbert…

Think there was a better game this year? You can add you own nominees when you vote below!
