The 2018 State of Chocolate Hockey
Hockey season has returned, and so has Chocolate Hockey. We are back for our ninth season covering the Hershey Bears with a new goal in mind.
As some of you may have noticed, we went on a hiatus in late February after the conclusion of the Olympic games. I quickly discovered back in January it was practically impossible to juggle a full college schedule and running a hockey news website at the same time. I decided to take a step back from the site and focus entirely on my education through early May. I addressed all of that in a video after my last final in May if you have not seen that.
Where are we at with Chocolate Hockey and our content this season? That’s a great question we are still trying to answer ourselves. I am finishing up my senior year of college so I will be balancing that on my plate for the next two and a half months. This will likely mean fewer posts from Chocolate Hockey compared to what we have done in the past. But that does not mean the quality of the content will dip.
My goal this season is to provide the best stories we have ever done. Whether that is long-form video, audio, more artistic photography, our goal is going to be to tell the stories of the people that make hockey so great in Central Pennsylvania. That might mean you only see a post from us once or twice a week.
Our daily Bears coverage will be scaled back. If you want to know about player movement, team news, and what’s going on day-to-day with the team, make sure you are following the team themselves on social media, along with the team’s media relations crew in Manager of Media Relations and Broadcasting Zack Fisch and media coordinator Matt Trust. They are the best source for direct from the team news.
What we will be doing is digging deeper into who the Bears are and some of their stories. That might include sit-down interviews, behind the scenes stuff, video features, you name it. Actually, please name it. Drop us a line with stories you want us to dive deeper into, and we will look into it.
Because these stories will need more time and effort put into them, there might be less game day coverage, practice coverage, and news coverage. But in exchange for that quantity drop, we will be raising the bar on the quality of the work we do.
Join us on all our social media channels: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, where we will be directly publishing a lot of our content this season.
This is going to be a fun year, and we hope the coverage we provide will add to the joy Hershey Bears hockey brings to your life. See you at the shopping cart very soon!

You have been doing great. Sometimes you need to just stop and take a break. I will be watching for your stories. And I for welcome more stories about the guys. School first. Hockey sometimes has to come second.
It’s great to follow your insightful posts. I have to learn quickly as there are only two forwards whose names I recognize. I do know the goalies and 7/9 defencemen but I will have no idea who scored for the Chocolate and White for the first few games.
