Doug Yingst and Bryan Helmer Inducted into AHL Hall of Fame

Their names are synonymous with the great tradition of Hershey Bears hockey. Now their names are forever enshrined with the legends of the American Hockey League. Monday morning in Allentown, Doug Yingst and Bryan Helmer became the newest members of the American Hockey League Hall of Fame. Yingst’s career with the Bears began as a sales and promotions director. It ended when he retired last season after 34 years, completing his run as President and General Manager. His four Calder Cup championships as General Manager equals the most in league history.

Chris Bourque Selected as 2017 AHL All-Star Classic Captain

On Monday morning, American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews announced he had selected Bears forward Chris Bourque to represent the Eastern Conference as their captain in the 2017 AHL All-Star Classic.

The selection marks Bourque’s fifth all-star game appearance and his fourth with Hershey. The 30-year-old currently leads all active AHL players with 604 points in 610 games and is two points away from 500 as a Hershey Bear. Last season, Bourque was named AHL MVP after winning the AHL scoring title for the second time in his career.

Jakub Vrana Recalled by Washington Capitals

Jakub Vrana Washington Capitals Hockey Hershey Bears

Forward Jakub Vrana has been recalled by the Washington Capitals – his first NHL call-up.

In 18 games for Hershey this season, Vrana has 16 points with nine goals. Vrana, 20, is in his third season with the Bears, playing 57 games for the Chocolate and White, including 31 playoff games.

Vrana was drafted by the Capitals in the first round in 2014, 13th overall. The Czech Republic native came to Hershey in 2015, scoring his first pro goal on May 2, 2015.
