Sunday night, the Bears were handed only their second regulation loss in 2016 by the Providence Bruins. In attendance for the game was Washington Capitals head coach Barry Trotz. And as Trotz currently leads the Capitals to one of the best records in hockey history, his thoughts on the current Bears squad are very high.

“Obviously, I’m not going to judge the Bears on one game,” Trotz said after the game. “Just look at their body of work. I think they’ve been pretty consistent with both goaltenders, the defense has developed; they’ve got good leadership with [Mike] Moore and [Ryan] Stanton on the back.

Jakub Vrana Named AHL Player of the Week

Monday afternoon, the American Hockey League announce Hershey Bears forward Jakub Vrana has been named AHL Player of the Week for the week ending February 7th, 2016. Vrana had a great weekend for the Chocolate and White, scoring three goals and four assists for seven points, along with one dab.

Travis Boyd Scores First Professional Hat Trick

It was right before the All-Star break that Riley Barber scored the first Bears hat trick in two seasons, netting three goals in a win against Syracuse. But now in back-to-back home games, the Bears have their second hat trick of the season.

Travis Boyd scored three goals for the Chocolate and White Saturday night in a 5-1 win over Lehigh Valley, including a deflection to give him his third goal. “Quite frankly I was just happy to see a few hats go on the ice,” Boyd said with a smile.

The Bears have been on a roll lately, thanks in part to the play of the young forwards on Hershey’s squad. During Hershey’s Saturday night game against Lehigh Valley, the 2014 first round pick for the Washington Capitals Jakub Vrana scored a beauty of a goal and did the only worthy celebration: dabbing.

Paul Carey Scores First NHL Goal with Washington

One day after getting his second recall from Hershey to the NHL, Paul Carey scored his first NHL goal Saturday afternoon. Carey played in only 24 NHL games before today, scoring only one point, an assist, in a stint with Colorado last season. On Saturday, that monkey on the 27-year-old’s back was lifted, as he scored the game-tying goal for Washington against New Jersey, sending the game to overtime for the Capitals, and later a shootout, in which Washington would win.

Despite Sharing a Birthday, Barber and Walker Traveled Different Paths to Hershey

Riley Barber and Nathan Walker found themselves on opposite ends of the ice at the end of Bears practice Thursday morning. Walker, sporting a pink helmet, was taking one-timers with teammates, smiling as he sat on his stick and goofing off with them. On the other end, Barber was smiling as he playfully pushed his roommate Paul Carey in front of the net.

The two players are now sharing a line in Hershey with former NHL star Scott Gomez, but they have a bit more in common than their linemate and team they play on.

Bourque, Carrick Participate in AHL All-Star Skills Challenge (GIFs)

One day before the AHL All-Star Challenge, the annual skills challenge took place in Syracuse, NY, featuring Bears forward Chris Bourque and defenseman Connor Carrick. Both took place in multiple events in the Easten Conference’s loss to the West, 19-14.
