Hershey Bears Take Down Syracuse Crunch, 2-1

It’s no secret that a big part of tonight’s game was Andrew Gordon facing off against his former team. But when the Hershey Bears play the Syracuse Crunch, you have to put friendships to the side.

Speaking of Andrew Gordon, he had a primary assist on the first goal of the game. Rick Schofield fired a one-timer that blazed past Braden Holtby to give the Crunch the lead. But Cody Eakin tied it up before the end of the period. He ended Hershey’s power play woes with a great shot against Antero Niitymaki.

Chocolate Fix 2/1/2012

Hershey’s first line of all-stars. Photo by Kyle Mace.

It was a so-so week in the land of the chocolate and white. The Bears traveled to Norfolk for two games before the All-Star Classic. Friday saw a continuation of their losing ways, however they made their way back into the win column on Saturday. Boyd Kane, Keith Aucoin and Chris Bourque then made their way to Atlantic City to participate in the AHL All-Star Classic. You can see highlights from the skills competition here. Unfortunately, they were all held off the scoring sheet in the game. The beginning of the week brought recall news. Cody Eakin was called up to Washington as well Joel Rechlicz.

More on the Rechlicz call up after the break…

Highlights of the 2012 AHL All-Star Skills Competition

Less than 24 hours after their game against the Norfolk Admirals, three Bears headed to Atlantic City to take part in the 2012 AHL All-Star Skills Competition. Though none of the Bears won an event, the guys certainly gave it a good try.

Chris Bourque impressed during the Caesars Accuracy Shooting event, only needing six shots to smash all four targets. Of course, it probably came easy to him with his linemate, Keith Aucoin, passing to him. Boyd Kane didn’t do quite as well but still hit two targets on eight shots. CSN Washington has videos of the two shooters.

Third Period Comeback Propels Bears Past Senators

You know it will be an interesting night when Darth Vader drops the puck for the ceremonial face-off. Indeed it was Star Wars night as the Bears took on the Senators in Binghamton.

Things started off strong for the Bears. Graham Mink earned the first goal of the game only 29 seconds into the game. Later in the period, the Senators tied it up with a shot from the face-off circle that eluded Dany Sabourin.

The Bears responded quickly, however. Matt Ford was right in front of the net to shoot a rebound past a sprawling Robin Lehner. That lead lasted until the Senators got a late power play. Binghamton not only scored on that power play, but also scored two more times in the remaining minute of the period. It had quickly gone from a Bears lead to all Binghamton momentum.

Well it’s another Wednesday and that means it is Chocolate Fix time. What is there to talk about this week? Hmmmmmm… I’m sure there must be something. Well I guess you can go back and read about that little game that happened on Friday night. You know, the one where we smashed the AHL attendance record playing outside at Citizen’s Bank Park. There’s also theĀ game on Saturday that was a rematch of the Friday night game. Lastly there was the last home game in a couple weeks on Sunday.

Bears Exact Revenge on Phantoms with 5-2 Victory

Bourque celebrates his short-handed goal against the Phantoms. All photos by Kyle Mace.

It’s hard to follow a huge game like the Outdoor Classic, but with the same teams playing, it makes for an interesting rematch. Speaking of the Outdoor Classic, have you checked out Kyle’s recap and amazing photos?

Unlike last night, the Phantoms scored the first goal of the game. Andrew Rowe scored by banking a shot off of Danny Richmond. Not a whole lot Richmond or Dany Sabourin could have done.

The Bears tied it up late in the same period with a patented Chris Bourque short-handed goal. It was a big goal for his 20th of the season.
