A surreal feeling was felt walking out of Hersheypark Stadium after nearly three hours of sitting in the cold and wind.

One of the oldest and most storied AHL teams, with a rabid fanbase and trophies to back it up were walking out of Hersheypark Stadium in a stunned silence.

Moments before, Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins forward Paul Thompson took an outlet pass from defenseman Joey Mormina, skated in and wristed the puck over the glove of Bears goaltender Dany Sabourin to win AHL Game #593 2-1 in overtime.

One night after scoring Hershey’s lone goal in the Outdoor Classic, Tomas Kundratek has been recalled by the Washington Capitals. The 23-year old defenseman has has one eventful week after being named to the 2013 AHL All-Star game, scoring Hershey’s goal last night, and now the recall.

In Front of 17,311 at Hersheypark Stadium, Bears Lose 2-1 in Overtime

It was a grand setting at Hersheypark Stadium on Sunday evening. Starting with a flurry of fireworks as the sun set on Central Pennsylvania, the Bears took on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL Outdoor Classic. Despite the freezing cold, 17,311 packed the old stadium to see one of the league’s greatest rivalries get taken to another level. Frankly, I wish I had gotten my butt up there. Unfortunately for the Bears, though, it didn’t end in a victory.

Former Bears Still Have Fun in Alumni Game Despite a Loss

The setting was perfect. The weather was flawless as well. The Outdoor Classic weekend kicked off with an Alumni game between the Bears and Penguins at Hersheypark Stadium. The competitive spirit of both teams showed, but the Penguins had a younger average age. and came up with a 9-5 victory.

Saturday morning, the Bears finally got to test out the outdoor ice with a practice. For a few guys, this was the first time they wore skates on the pond at Hersheypark Stadium, but for others this was their second time out after the family skate.
