Hershey Scores Five to Sink Admirals

It may not be Summer time, but Wednesday the Hershey Bears traveled south near Virginia Beach to face the Norfolk Admirals. Since hoisting Calder last June for the first time in franchise history, the Admirals have started the season with a 7-10-0-0 record. Four different Bears scored en route to a 5-2 win over the defending Calder Cup Champions. Braden Holtby stonewalled 24 of 26 Admiral shots to record his sixth victory of the season.

With time running short in November, the Hershey Bears scrapped for a win Sunday night against the defending Western Conference Champions, Toronto Marlies. Four goals were scored in the first 40 minutes, leading to a much needed 4-2 win.

Pirates Take Over SS Hershey, Beat the Bears 3-1

Entering Sunday, the Hershey Bears have only scored seven goals in the first period, a problem which could relate to how few shots they get on net during the opening twenty minutes. Through eleven games, they’ve fired only 92 shots on net during the first period, which averages out to a little over eight, a dreadful amount. Looking to turn things around Sunday against the Portland Pirates, the Bears came out flat again, firing 5 shots on goal in the first period. The Bears would end up losing 3-1.

Saturday night at Giant Center the Hershey Bears squared off with the second oldest franchise in the American Hockey League, the Rochester Americans. It wasn’t just a hockey game, but a celebration among Hershey Bears fans, players and staff members. Saturday the Bears celebrated 75 years of hockey.

Bears Fall Short in Season Opener

If the Hershey Bears were to pick a location to open their season on the road, it likely would have been Syracuse. The last five seasons the Onondaga County War Memorial has been a very  successful road rink for the Bears. Entering Saturday’s match-up, the Bears have posted a 8-1-0-1 record in Syracuse dating back to the 2007-08 season. But the winning pattern didn’t hold up Saturday night as former Norfolk Admiral, Cory Conacher posted two points and earned first star honors in a 4-3 Crunch with over Hershey. It was the first opening night loss for Hershey dating back to October 2007.
