We are five days into the new year, but we still have sometime to look back on 2013. Today, I took 26 of my favorite shots from the year and looked back on them. Above, probably my favorite photo from the year; Tom Wilson celebrating his first professional goal. The image captures Wilson’s excitement of getting the goal at a professional level for the first time, plus the excitement of the Bears faithful as Wilson scored the goal ahead goal in Game 4 of the first round series between Hershey and the Providence Bruins.

Michael Latta Comes in Like a Wrecking Ball

We’ve seen some pretty amazing fights this year from Joel Rechlicz, but Saturday night’s fight might be the front runner for the season. Late in the first period, Michael Latta would drop the mitts with Darren Kramer.

The fight was one of the fastest ones in recent memory, but Latta’s final punch took the cake. The video was so epic that we had to remix it with a Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball.”

Bears Have Scoring Marathon, Beat B-Sens 7-4

After an unsuccessful comeback Friday night, the Chocolate and White tried to bounce back against Binghamton on a snowy night in Hershey. With former 2009 Calder Cup Playoffs MVP Michal Neuvirth back between the pipes for the Bears, Hershey was on their a-game, scoring seven goals on 41 shots, winning 7-4 over the Senators.

Bruins Spoil Teddy Bear Spectacle in Shootout

The Hershey Bears were in search for home wins in consecutive days for the first time this season on Sunday. The Chocolate and White kicked off December with a 3-2 setback in a skills competion on their Hall of Fame Night, along with the annual Teddy Bear Toss spectacle.

National Hockey League legendary broadcaster Mike “Doc” Emrick again hosted the on-ice, pregame ceremony with inductions of Tim Tookey, Gordon ‘Red’ Henry, Arnie Kullman, Kenneth Hatt and J Bruce McKinney.

During the first period of the Bears game against the Norfolk Admirals Sunday night, Michael Latta and Garrett Mitchell laid a huge hit on Norfolk’s Max Friberg, which caused a pane of glass in the far right corner of the ice to fall out into the stands.

Bears’ Lethargic Third Period Lifts Wolf Pack

Striding towards their first win on Giant Center ice since last Spring, the Hershey Bears reunited with the Hartford Wolf Pack. After dropping the team title “Connecticut Whale”, the Hartford based franchise restored the name “Wolf Pack” after a two year absence.

On a Penn State University football game day, 8,001 fans packed Giant Center to witness a Hershey third period collapse, which handed the Wolf Pack their sixth win of the campaign.

Two third period goals for the Pack opposed to none for Hershey led to a 4-3 defeat in front of the hometown crowd. The Bears’ record drops to 1-3-1-0 going into the weekend finale Sunday against Norfolk.

Phantoms Foil Bears Season Opener in OT

The spotlights shined at Giant Center for opening night between the Hershey Bears and Adirondack Phantoms to kick off the 2013-14 campaign. It began the final season the Phantoms will be sheltered in the ADK, as they are set to move into the new Lehigh Valley-based PPL Center next season.

Brandon Manning scored 3:22 into the sudden death overtime frame to down Hershey, 4-3.

Hershey Bears Announce Opening Night Roster, Captain

Michael Latta Assigned to Hershey

The Hershey Bears have gained Michael Latta back for the start of the 2013-14 season. The 22-year-old Latta made the Washington Capitals opening night roster, but after the Capitals claimed Alexander Urbom off wavers, they sent the young forward down.
