With the Giant Center ice troubling the Hershey Bears Hockey Club, they looked for their tenth road win of the campaign in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Braden Holtby was named a healthy scratch, as Dany Sabourin backstopped the Bears to an exciting 4-3 overtime win over the Sound Tigers. Tomas Kundratek tallied two goals, including the overtime game winner to help tame the Tigers.

December 19 marked the 76th birthday of Hershey Park Arena, as well as the anniversary of the birth of the National Hockey League. On December 19, 1917, four teams played the first ever NHL games. But on December 19, 2012, seven members were inducted into the new Hershey Bears Hall of Fame prior to a 4-0 shutout win over the Norfolk Admirals.

After Tuesday’s close win over the St. John’s IceCaps, the Hershey Bears have now won six of their last eight games. Braden Holtby was once again on top of his game, stopping 32 of 33 St. John’s shots. Tomas Kundratek recorded the game-winning goal on the power play just 40 seconds into the third period, to give Hershey a 2-1 lead.

Kevin Marshall’s OT Winner Beats Penguins, 5-4

With momentum riding high in the Hershey Bears’ locker room following a win in our nation’s capital, the Bears looked to carry that momentum to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Kevin Marshall recorded his first and only shot of the game at the 3:18 mark of overtime, and capitalized on Penguins’ goaltender Jeff Zatkoff to send the Bears past the W-B for the forth time this season, 5-4.

Hershey Bears Teddy Bear Toss: 2012

It’s that time of year again; Teddy Bear Toss time. Every holiday season, thousands of Bears fans bring thousands of stuffed animals to Giant Center. When the Bears score the first goal, the stuffed animals rain onto the ice. 12,497 stuffed animals benefit Children’s Miracle Network. It took the Hershey Jr. Bears and even some players 20 minutes to gather the bears following Tomas Kundratek’s second period goal. A night after being ruffed up in Syracuse, New York, the Hershey Bears returned home looking to snap a three-game win-less streak against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Ryan Potulny, returning from injury played his first game at Giant Center since the home opener on October 20. Potulny failed to tally a point in front of his home town crowd, but the Bears beat the Penguins for the third consecutive game, 4-1.

Pirates Take Over SS Hershey, Beat the Bears 3-1


HERSHEY, PA – Michael Stone scores on Braden Holtby in the second period during Hershey’s 3-1 loss to Portland (Tim Stough – Sweetest Hockey on Earth)

Entering Sunday, the Hershey Bears have only scored seven goals in the first period, a problem which could relate to how few shots they get on net during the opening twenty minutes. Through eleven games, they’ve fired only 92 shots on net during the first period, which averages out to a little over eight, a dreadful amount. Looking to turn things around Sunday against the Portland Pirates, the Bears came out flat again, firing 5 shots on goal in the first period. The Bears would end up losing 3-1.
