Pens Take Down Bears, 4-2 in Penalty-Laden Affair

As the season winds down, the Bears take to the ice to try and improve their position in the standings. No better chance to achieve this than to take down the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

The first period left much to be desired from the Bears. Despite three power play chances, the Bears only mustered up four shots on goal. To make matters worse, the Penguins scored late in the period, just eight seconds into a power play.

Bears Keep Penguins Flightless, Win 5-1

After a tough loss last night, the Bears looked to re-bound and win their second straight at home against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pens for the first time since the 2009-10 season. Scoring five goals tonight, all the Bears needed was the help of Braden Holtby, which they got. Holtby only allowed one goal on 35 shots, helping the Bears to a 5-1 victory over the Pens.

Bears Stop Wilkes-Barre’s Streak at Nine, Win 4-3 (SO)

The Hershey Bears came into tonight’s game facing a nine-game home losing streak to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Last night, Wilkes-Barre play-by-play announcer Tom Grace said of today’s game that the Baby Pens will win their tenth straight at Giant Center and start calling it the Penguins’ second home. After today’s game, Grace might need to rethink what he said. Hershey came back from a 3-2 deficit in the third to win the game 4-3 in a shootout.

Bears Lose Three-Goal Lead as Penguins Win, 4-3

It may have been the All-Star Break but the Bears were very busy over the past week. With some new guys adjusting to Hershey’s style of play and the league point leader on recall, it’s time for some of the guys to step up to the plate. No better time than against the rival Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

With minimal whistles, the first period flew by. There were no penalties and only a few icing calls; the first major break didn’t come until just about fifteen minutes in. Garrett Mitchell potted his third goal of the season after Patrick Wellar shot bounced off Andrew Carroll, who was in front of Brad Thiessen. Mitchell took the rebound and gave the Bears the first goal of the game.

Five Goals Not Enough to beat WBS Penguins

After quite the trumping of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins last night, the Bears had a lot to live up to, especially in front of a filled-to-the-brim Giant Center.

The first period didn’t live up to the energy that everyone thought it would have. Both teams were keeping calm, perhaps saving their energy for the later periods. The Penguins had two power play opportunities but, thanks to Dany Sabourin, it was scoreless after one.

Defensemen Help Bears Trounce WBS Penguins, 6-0.

The Bears are great at having strong starts, but they usually struggle to get those strong starts when they play the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Tonight, they broke through.

It was defensemen who started the show. First, Matt Ford was stopped on a wraparound attempt but Tomas Kundratek stuffed home the rebound. A few minutes later, Julien Brouillette extended the lead when he scored on a screened Brad Thiessen.

To top off the first period, Patrick McNeill scored short-side during a power play to make it 3-0 after twenty minutes. Not only were all three goals from defensemen, but they were also the fifth goal of the season for each player.

Bears Winning Streak Comes to End against Penguins

Tonight was the sixth installment in the Hershey Bears/Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins story. The Bears had a chance to even the series up after going 2-3 before tonight.

The first period saw no goals, only some good chances. But as is typical with all Bears/Penguins games, there was plenty of the rough stuff going around. Patrick McNeill was the victim of a knee-on-knee hit from Nick Petersen. McNeill didn’t finish the first period but thankfully did return for the second.
