When you work in hockey for as many years as Frank Mathers did, you accumulate a lot of stuff. If you’re smart, like Frank’s son JD, you keep all of that stuff. Frank Schofield takes you around JD’s house to take a look at a small percentage of the Mathers collection.
The Hershey Bears are two days into their training camp for the 2016-17 season. Today, we visited Giant Center and captured the events from the ice in both photo and video form.

Chocolate Hockey and the Old Barn Hockey Show are happy to announce a new partnership between the two. Starting on Monday, October 3rd, the ninth season of the Old Barn will kick off with a new co-host: our own Kyle Mace. Kyle joins Frank Schofield, Brock Kerchner, senior executive producer Art Selby, and JD Mathers, the son of the late Bears President and GM, Hockey Hall of Famer Frank Mathers.
One of Hershey’s biggest pieces on and off the ice from the 2015-16 season, Zach Sill is returning for another two seasons. Sill, 28, agreed to terms with Washington on a two-year, two-way contract for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons.
The Bears alternate captain had 22 points (9-13-22) in 63 games with the Hershey this past season. In 21 playoff games, Sill posted a line of 6-4-10, including big shorthanded goals in both Wilkes-Barre and Toronto series.
Ten years ago tonight, the Hershey Bears won their ninth Calder Cup – a team lead by Bruce Boudreau. One of the alternate captains on that team was Graham Mink, who went on to win another Cup with the Bears in 2009.
During a Bears game in November, Mink visited Hershey and we caught up with him.

The Hershey Bears and abc27 announced Thursday afternoon they will be televising all of the Hershey Bears away games in the 2016 Calder Cup Finals from Cleveland. Games Three and Four will be on abc27’s digital channel, 27.3, and Game Five will be on abc27’s main channel in high definition.
