Graham Mink Really Wants the Lockout to End

Long-time Hershey Bear and fan favorite, Graham Mink, has still not found a new team to play for in the AHL. And in this photo he tweeted from his Twitter account tonight, you can see how far he has fallen. Mink is now trying his hand at a white collar job and from what we can tell, he’s still going through a bit of an adjustment period. A few observations: 1) it has to be hot as hell in all of that gear 2) I’m really not sure how he can type with those gloves on.

Hershey Bears Auction Off 75th Anniversary Jerseys For Charity

If you recall on Saturday, the Hershey Bears wore special sweaters for their home opener to celebrate their 75th year in existence. After the game, the organization held a special event down at center ice and auctioned off each player’s jersey. The end result? The Bears raised an extraordinary $39,950 for their charities and a few lucky fans got to go home with a personally signed game-used jersey from their favorite player.

Which sweater ended up raising the most cash? The result may shock you.

Puckhead Returns to Hershey for Home Opener

Lamont Buford, better known as Puckhead to Hershey Bears fans, made his grand return to Giant Center Saturday night, to psych up the crowd during the 2012 home opener. Puckhead, who’s shown on the jumbotron after every Bears goal yelling “B-e-a-r-s, Bears, Bears, Bears, Woooo!”, made the trek from St. Louis, where he now currently works for the Blues. Unfortunately for Buford, the Bears were on the wrong end of an 8-7 loss, which happened to be the most combined goals scored in a Bears home opener ever. At least, he got to hear himself on the jumbotron seven times and also see a Gordie Howe hat trick.

Below the jump, check out video taken by our own Tim Stough and ABC27 of Puckhead revving up the crowd before the game. The dude’s still got it.

Garrett Mitchell Registers Gordie Howe Hat Trick in Bears 8-7 Loss to Rochester

Hershey Bears forward Garrett Mitchell has started off his second professional season strong. He scored a goal in his second game of the year in the Bears 3-2 win over Binghamton. And tonight, Mitchell had a Gordie Howe hat trick, registering a goal, an assist, and a fight in the Bears’ home opener. Well, should we call it a Gordie Howe hat trick plus with him registering a game misconduct too?

Kyle Mace’s exceptional photos of each event are below.

Three weeks ago when the AHL All-Star Rosters were announced, Lawrence Nycholat was voted in as a starter. But due to an upper body injury that he re-aggravated Thursday night, he had to pull out of the game.

With All-Star weekend fast-approaching, the league turned to Brian Fahey to fill the void. Fahey, who has played 7 games for the Capitals and has notched 17 points in 34 games with the Bears this year, has consistently produced when called upon. So it was fitting for him to be a last-minute replacement and shine in today’s AHL Skills Competition.

Fahey competed in the “Sher-Wood Puck Control Relay,” but it was the “Reebok Hardest Shot” competition where he shined.

Braden Holtby talks about his stint with the Capitals, how he can improve, & achieving a childhood dream

Above: Braden Holtby performs one of my favorite Holtbyisms – “The Water Squirt” – during a stoppage in play.

On December 4th, I went up to Hershey again to see my first ever Teddy Bear Toss Night. Not only were over 7,000 stuffed animals donated to charity, but Braden Holtby shut out the Binghamton Senators to lead the Bears to a 4-0 victory. In fact, it was his second shutout in three games since being returned to Hershey.

Holtby, who is currently posting a scintillating .934 save percentage and a 1.86 goals against average, caught up with me after the game to talk extensively about his time in Washington, how he can improve, and what it was like to finally achieve his childhood dream.
