When watching the video of Bears captain Garrett Mitchell being told he was getting his first NHL call-up, you could feel the emotion coming through whatever screen you were looking at, even though there might not have been much excitement on Mitchell’s face. “When I look at the video, even my wife goes ‘You don’t look that excited,'” said Mitchell. “Honestly, I could have started crying right there. I couldn’t have been more excited.

Days after clinching the President’s Trophy, the Capitals rewarded the Bears captain with his first call-up almost eight years after being drafted by the organization. The Regina, Saskatchewan native has only played in a limited number of preseason games for the Capitals in his career, and never an NHL regular season game. Sunday night that should all change.

Christian Djoos Named AHL Player of the Month for March

Monday morning the AHL announced that Bears defenseman Christian Djoos had been named AHL Player of the Month for March 2017. With three goals and thirteen assists in thirteen games for the Bears in the month, Djoos earned his first league award as a member of the Bears.

The 22-year-old is having a career year in his second full season with Hershey, posting a stat line of 12-43-55, good for second amongst all defenseman.

Hampus Gustafsson Scores First Pro Point Against Binghamton

After signing as a free agent with the Washington Capitals, Hampus Gustafsson joined the Hershey Bears on an amateur tryout deal. While most ATO signees rarely see one game, Gustafsson was called upon after center Zach Sill went down with an injury.

In only this third game with the Bears, Gustafsson set up Riley Barber for a perfect pass to Hubert Labrie to give Hershey a 1-0 lead Wednesday night. That assist marked the first point as a professional in Gustafsson’s career – a special feeling for the 23-year-old. “It was nice but nice to get the win too,” Gustafsson said after the game. “We needed that for the push into the playoffs.”

Jonas Siegenthaler Officially Assigned to Hershey From Zurich

We’ve known this was coming since Friday, but it Monday it was made official: Jonas Siegenthaler is joining the Hershey Bears once again.

The six-foot-three-inch defenseman will join the Hershey Bears for the final month of the regular season after playing for the Zurich Lions of the National League A in Switzerland this season. Siegenthaler was expected to start the 2016-17 season in Hershey but returned home to Switzerland for personal reasons.
